Spartacus star dies

Spartacus: Blood and Sand star Andy Whitfield died in Sydney yesterday at the age of 39.

Whitfield, who was born in Wales and lived in Australia, left the popular cable television when he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma 18 months ago, and was replaced for its second season by Australian actor Liam McIntyre.

Well-liked by LGBT viewers for its homoeroticism, gay characters, and stunning action sequences, Whitfield played the title character in the show

A statement released to the media said the actor lost his battle with cancer and died in the arms of his wife, Vashti, on Sunday. She called her husband a “beautiful young warrior”.
