True Blood star: “It Gets Better”

True Blood star Alexander Skarsgård is the latest high-profile celebrity to film an ‘It Gets Better’ video for LGBT youth.

In the particularly heartfelt clip the Swedish actor, who plays Eric Northman in the Alan Ball series, urges parents to teach their children that homophobic bullying and discrimination are unacceptable.

“We have to teach our children, not only by our words but by our actions, that every human being has equal value and to bully someone or for society to discriminate against someone because they have a different sexual orientation is unacceptable,” he says.

“I don’t have any children yet but the day I do, I will make sure that they – before they can walk, before they can even crawl – know how important that is. And I hope you do the same. It gets better.”

The ‘It Gets Better’ project was started by gay journalist Dan Savage and has led to politicians, sports teams, business organisations and celebrities contributing clips worldwide.
