Clover’s new team
It was with a quiet sense of confidence that Clover Moore announced her running team for the upcoming council elections, vowing to take to the campaign process with a philosophical approach and a surety that her team’s accomplishments over the past four years would speak for themselves.
The Lord Mayor announced her team for the September council election last Thursday on the steps of Town Hall. Current Independent Team Councillors John McInerney, Marcelle Hoff and Phillip Black were joined on the steps by the fresh-faced Di Tornai, vice-chair of the Victoria Park Community Group; Robert Kok, chair of the city’s Chinese New Year committee; Andrew Duckmanton (pictured) of the Darlinghurst Business Partnership; John Wardle, the strategist behind Moore’s Raise the Bar campaign; and civil libertarian Dr Lesley Lynch.
Our team has shown what can be achieved for the city, Moore said at Thursday’s press conference.
Over the past four years we’ve unified the amalgamated city, establishing a firm foundation for the future by creating a council organisation that is well-managed, financially prudent and engaged with our diverse residential, business, worker and visitor communities.
Chris, by all means criticise Shayne’s policies – we live in a democracy and it’s your right. But to suggest some sort of “moral equivalence” between his gay voters and Jews voting for the Nazis is ignorant and absurd. Shayne is a local politician in 21st-century Australia; the Nazis were a plague who consigned millions of innocent people to their deaths. Keep some perspective. My grandfather lost his entire family in the Holocaust. Your comment is an insult to his memory.
I know it has been said many times before..but it still has resonance…a gay or lesbian person who votes for Mallard or any other liberal is the moral equivalant of a jewish person voting for the nazi party!!!!
Will – I cant believe you would even consider voting for someone who represents the homophobic Liberal party. The Liberal party is the party who stated that gay equality is too costly – How you could even vote for someone who represents them is beyond me.
I am very concerned that a vote for Shayne Mallard is a vote for the Liberal Party. The liberal party are essentially homophobic at their core. They have consistently blocked gay legal reforms and equal rights legislation. I too will be voting for Clover Moore and her team. They have done a very good job on the city of Sydney council and they deserve the opportunity to continue their good work!
Well i live bear harmony park too BUT im not voting for clClover this time.
I have a long memory of her inaction on the Oxford Street crime issue and,yes AND,if you ring her office and ask for help her staff make sure they tell you that “Clover is only a independent and cannot do much to help you,BUT do you still want help then”?
I am a greenie from way back, but disapointed in the current Greens councillor who didnt give a rats bum when we were all campaigning for a safer Oxford Street a few months ago!
Instead it was the Liberal guy Shane Mallard who was the only one who showed genuine interest.
And believe me im voting for him personally NOT the party he represents.because i believe he done a good job and shouted the loudest to make oford street safer.
A vote for Clover is a vote for the same bull…t time again.
I will happily vote for Clover and her team. She supported me in a local issue in my neighbourhood. She actually came down with a staff member to the street to speak to local residents. I am very happy with Harmony Park the new park near my home. I am also very much looking forward to the new Surry Hills Library and Community centre opening. We have had lots of trees planted in the area, new street signs and she has done a lot for dog owners like me. Compared to the old South sydney council which did nothing, the Council lead by Clover has been like a breath of fresh air. She has really earned our ongoing support…
