Cruising into awards season
The Australian Sailing and Cruising Club’s annual dinner to celebrate the achievements of club members is on tomorrow (Friday) night.
Awards will be given out for the winners of each of the racing seasons. In addition awards are given for a number of the social and cruising events including the culinary award for the best meal and cocktail prepared on a boat, group spokesman David told Sydney Star Observer.
We also give out the novelty Oily Oar award which is for the biggest cruising catastrophe and the Photographic Award for the best on-deck photograph.
For the first time this year the club is presenting the Help Award for the person who has been the greatest assistant to a crew in times of crisis.
The dinner is attended by skippers and their crew as well as other interested members.
A guest speaker will talk about steamboats and their history as well as the engineering behind steamboats.
A major raffle will also be featured on the night. The Pacific Boating Group, the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre and 4play have provided some great raffle prizes.
It is the club’s formal dinner -¦ it’s the major event that most members will attend. It’s a chance for people to catch up and interact in a more informal way, David said.
We are looking at about 40 people to attend. It will be held at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia in Rushcutters Bay.
Prizes for the raffle include a skippered harboured cruise for six people, a membership of the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre and a ticket to the next 4Play themed dinner.
