Freezone springs to life

Sydney’s Freezone Volleyball Club held their annual Spring Tournament at Homebush’s Sports Halls on Saturday, with almost 95 people (including some interstate players) taking part in a full day of volleyball games and fun.

With two pools of play involving 13 teams, the tournament ended up with a C, B and BB grade of competition.

C Grade winners were the QF Rockets, with Safe Sets White coming in second and the Kaiata women’s team taking home bronze.

In the B Division, fresh from their success at the Cologne Gay Games, Melbourne’s Gumnuts took out the gold medal, with Crazy coming in silver and Sets in the City earning a bronze medal.

In the BB Division, the newly formed Kinnaree took gold over a very determined Saow Iesam and Freespirit holding out for bronze.

Most Valuable Player awards were given to Puna Mariri from Kaiata Volleyball Club, Graeme Corrica from Team Crazy, and Andre Nunes from LA iTeam.

After the games, Freezone members enjoyed a Gay Games medal presentation ceremony at Bar Cleveland (pictured).
The next Freezone tournament will be held in February 2011 for Mardi Gras.
