George Takei calls on IOC to move the Winter OIympics

800px-George_Takei_Chicago_Gay__Lesbian_Pride_2006Gay rights activist and Star Trek actor George Takei has joined a growing number of celebrities who have taken a stance against Russia’s homophobic laws, and gone a step further by urging the International Olympic Committee to move the 2014 Winter Olympics out of Russia.

In a post he made on his personal blog on Tuesday, Takei stated that “The IOC must do the right thing, protect its athletes and the fans, and move the 2014 Winter Olympics out of Russia”.

Takei also suggested that the location of the 2014 games should be moved to the previous 2010 location of Vancouver, Canada due to the facilities there still being in a good condition.

Takei asked his followers to sign a petition for the IOC to move the games: http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/international-olympic-committee-ioc-relocate-the-2014-winter-games-to-vancouver-2
