Get running for a community cause
Participants in this year’s City2Surf are being asked to choose ACON as their favourite charity when they register to run in the event.
ACON Business Development Manager Mark Thomas said whether running or walking the 14km route up William St to Bondi, people were welcome to join Team ACON to help raise money to finance ACON’s work in the community.
While we get a significant amount of funding from NSW Health, that money can only be spent on work we do in relation to HIV/AIDS, Thomas said.
Our broader work in relation to GLBT health and wellbeing -” such as alcohol and other drugs, lesbian health, anti-violence, mental health, ageing, community care and advocacy -” is financed by fundraising activities and donations. To keep this important work going, we rely on the generosity of people and organisations in our community.
Everyone participating as part of Team ACON will be given a red 2008 Sun-Herald City2Surf cap and a Team ACON T-shirt to make sure they stand out in the crowd.
Pressure on ACON’s fundraising arm has increased significantly this year since it announced it was taking over operations of the Luncheon Club in conjunction with the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation.
