Governor a ‘homophobic douchebag’
The Governor of Tokyo has made a slew of homophobic statements during Japan’s national Human Rights Awareness Week.
In press conferences on December 3 and 7, Governor Shintaro Ishihara said that homosexuals were defectives and should not appear on TV.
“It seems they’re defective in some ways,” said Ishihara, “It’s probably because of their genetics. They’re a minority group, I pity them.”
“Homosexuals appear on TV like they’re allowed. Japan has become too unruly.”
“I saw the gay parade [in San Fransisco] in the past, but I felt really sorry for them. The same sex couples seemed they were missing something.”
Kobe based current affairs blogger Tootsie Rocha dubbed Ishihara a “stupid homophobic douchebag” for his comments.
The same week Ishihara won the Raspberry Award at the inaugural SuperStar Awards for depictions of GLBTs in the media
The awards were held in the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building where Ishihara works.

Just so you know this caused an outrage by lots and lots of people on the internet in Japan, started by a drag queen TV personality (the type of figure Ishihara was attacking as “What’s with all the weirdos appearing on TV?”) Matsuko Deluxe on a local Tokyo channel called MX.

What’s so disappointing is that although Ishihara has repeatedly made this line of discriminatory remarks that would cause media outrage and an immediate sack from the public position in other first world nations, the mainstream Japanese media is almost all silent on this issue.

Peter In Brisbane, the whaling issue has no place here. Besides, there are a lot more to whaling that what Australian media portray.
