HAYDEN TEE – GENERATION WHY LIVE

New Zealand-born musical theatre performer Hayden Tee has assembled an album of live covers on Generation Why, and it’s a collection that reveals his endearingly naff taste in music — Slice Of Heaven, Walking On Sunshine and even Enya’s Orinoco Flow are just some of the guilty pleasures he reworks.

Rework being the operative word — backed by a live band and an 18-strong troupe of backing vocalists, Tee transforms Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror into a frenetic Broadway number and turns 99 Luftballons into an accordion-heavy folk song. It doesn’t always work, but it makes for interesting listening.
