Kylie backs It Gets Better

Kylie has opened up to iheartradio about her gay fanbase and role as an old lesbian in the movie Jack & Diane.

In a Q&A with the website, she talked about growing up with gay friends and expressed her support for the It Gets Better anti-bullying campaign for gay youth.

“Gay and lesbian people have been a part of my life since I started working in TV at 11-years-old,” Minogue said.

“For me, it seems very natural, but to make others aware that that kind of prejudice is not fair, not necessary, and downright wrong, is important to me. So, the more of that that I can get across, the better.”

Kylie also believes her role in Jack & Diane – a gay love story – will help get that message across.

“Jack and Diane goes along with what my vision is, and what the message of the All The Lovers video was: Love, is love, is love.”

As for those decidedly unglamorous pics of her taken on set, the pop icon expained, “I play the girlfriend of Riley Keough’s character, and I just loved that the character was the antithesis of everything that I’d been doing with Aphrodite.

“Lately, it’s been all about the glamour, and the fashion, and the photo shoots – but this girl is no makeup, no frills, no nothing.”

The performance was part of a TV special that aired over the weekend in the UK.
