It’s all in the shape

Renowned Canadian playwright Joan MacLeod will be bringing some of her magic to the Sydney Opera House this August, and it’s a creation which proves why she is the winner of the Canadian Governor-General’s Award.

The Shape of a Girl is a dynamic production. The one-woman show gives insight into the realities of teenage relationships, aggression and codes of behaviour.

The play was inspired by the vicious 1997 murder of Canadian high school student Reena Virk by her peers. MacLeod’s adaptation of the ordeal uses the experience of a 15-year-old girl who follows the media coverage of the trial and finds it becomes an intense experience, touching many heartstrings along the way. The show is directed by Noel Jordan and stars Jodie Le Vesconte.

info: The Shape of a Girl opens on Tuesday 12 August until Friday 15 August. Tickets start at $17. Bookings on 9250 7777 or www.sydneyoperahouse.com
