Launch party at Fair Day

Launch party at Fair Day

The 2009 Mardi Gras launch party will be incorporated into Fair Day proceedings next year in a bid to widen the event’s appeal and mark a new, more widely incorporative approach being taken by New Mardi Gras.

The Mardi Gras Festival next year will be launched on February 15 at a yet to be revealed event to be held during Fair Day.

Mardi Gras chairman David Imrie isn’t revealing any of the details yet, but assures all that it will be spectacular while also hopefully drawing in a more diverse crowd from the GLBT community.

Fair Day has grown annually for a number of years and has become a very big event. It’s the event that the entire community likes to participate in. It draws in our entire community, their friends, their families. It’s not party-centric, it’s not an alcohol-based event at a bar or a club. It’s a big celebratory day for everyone and it seemed like the natural thing to do, to use it as the launch for the season, Imrie told the Star Observer.

Fair Day is the event where we get a lot of people together who are representative of the entire community. This is something that parents with kids can come to and be a part of. It’s really that it’s something for everyone and that’s what, by definition, New Mardi Gras is all about.

As for the details, it’s a big surprise that I’m not going to reveal yet. People will just have to come down on February 15 and see but we’re going to run a launch that is in keeping with the scale of fair day. It’s going to be a great event.

  1. What a great idea David …. I think it is time we looked at how we can better streamline the entire Mardi Gras festival. While there is something to be said about repetition and reliability, if you don’t keep things fresh then people become complacent. I am looking forward to seeing how launch and fair day come together – i think there is something really special possible from this. Good luck
