Let your voice be heard
Thanks to their well received performance at last month’s Symphony in the Domain concert, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs have been inundated with enquiries from members of the public interested in joining.
The Choirs will host a Festival Chorus Open Day on Sunday, February 13 for anyone wanting to try choral singing.
“The idea behind Open Day is to give the potential singer as much information about our choirs, alongside the opportunity to sing in a large choral ensemble,” Sydney Philharmonia Choirs artistic director and conductor Brett Weymark said.
“If you’re curious about choirs, this is an entertaining and supportive way to find out if it’s the right form of musical expression for you.”
Festival Chorus Open Day is workshop-based, with participants singing in small groups to allow for a fine-tuning of their choral skills. Participants get the chance to meet the people behind the scenes such as the conductor and the vocal coach, as well as meeting like-minded people who share a passion for music.
“The workshop aims to be entertaining and fun, and will give people a good idea as to whether they want to stay for the vocal assessments and placing at the end of the session,” Weymark said.
The Festival Chorus Open Day runs from 2 to 5pm at the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs Rehearsal Space, Pier 4 Walsh Bay, Hickson Rd, Millers Point. Participation is free.
