LGBTI homeless over-represented in San Francisco

HomelessA new US study has found 29 per cent of San Francisco’s homeless population identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, nearly twice the city’s overall estimated 15.4 per cent LGBTI-identified population.

The results have prompted US experts to call for more specialist services to deal with LGBTI homelessness, saying homophobic and transphobic families kicking young people out of home contributes to high rates of homeless LGBTI youth.

Multiple Australian studies have suggested LGBTI young people are over-represented in Australia’s homeless population.
