Lip smacker Thursday
Activists will hold a same sex kiss-In, in Hyde Park this Thursday, July 16 from noon, in an action which is unaffiliated to this Saturday’s NoToPope event on Taylor Square.
A group of protestors will challenge the Catholic Church’s stance on homosexuality and abstinence training by staging the same-sex kiss In, to be followed by a handing out of safe sex packs to pilgrims.
The kiss-in is a way of saying that all love should be celebrated and to let all same-sex attracted Catholics know that they have nothing to be ashamed of, event organiser Randah Wassef said.
The safe sex packs will feature condoms and safe sex information leaflets but are not designed to encourage sexual activists, Wassef said.
The safe sex pack handout is intended to promote safety when sex does happen. It is directly targeted at the abstinence only stance of the Church, which significantly impacts on the HIV/AIDS epidemic all around the world, but most significantly in Africa. Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for 32 percent of all new HIV infections and AIDS-related deaths globally, he said.
Surely the church is partly responsible for these HIV related deaths.
Protesters will meet at St James station at 11.45am before heading to the Archibald Fountain for the kiss-in.
I agree peter!!
The more we can do to peacefully get our message across the better .. gentle but pointed portests like these kiss-ins are a great way to stand up for our rights without resorting to violence or extreme measures. I intend on attending both.
