Lobby searches for new convenor

Victorian Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby (VGLRL) convenor Sarah Rogan has stepped down from her position.

“I’ve enjoyed my time in the role and it’s a shame to leave but I’ve got other things on the horizon and need to move on,” she told the Star Observer.

The VGLRL held a committee meeting on Tuesday to decide who will fill the role in the interim.

Rogan took on the volunteer position in early 2010. During her tenure, she took a leading role in pushing an anti-violence scheme in Brunswick and speaking out against religious exemptions in Victoria’s anti-discrimination laws.

She also wrote a regular column on behalf of the VGLRL for the Star Observer.

The VGLRL, which has been around since 1997, is also looking for new members.
