Bye bye, Bernie: Defence Force gives Bernard Gaynor the flick

ONE of the Australian Defence Force’s most controversial figures who has criticised LGBTI inclusion in the force has been given his marching orders following a directive by the former Chief General David Hurley.

The former Queensland candidate for the Katter’s Australian Party, Bernard Gaynor, was told of his dismissal from the ADF via a letter from General Hurley as one of his final acts as Chief on June 30.

In the letter General Hurley states that Gaynor’s commission has been terminated because the questionable manner in which he expressed his fervent Christian beliefs was inconsistent with ADF policies.

The ADF has issued a statement today confirming General Hurley’s directive and that Gaynor’s reservist position had become untenable, and his views were not welcome within the force.

“Defence can confirm it has made a final decision to terminate the service of Army Reserve member Major Bernard Gaynor as a result of conduct that demonstrates repeated behaviour inconsistent with Army and Defence policies,” an ADF spokesperson told the Star Observer.

“In accordance with procedural fairness and the principles of natural justice, Major Gaynor was provided an opportunity to demonstrate why his service should not be terminated.”

Gaynor has had a colourful history as a reservist for the ADF. Along with publicly accusing the ADF of lacking “moral courage” and capitulating to extremist Islam, he has accused Chief of Army Lieutenant General Morrison of being “a slave of Islam” and labelling him a “coward”.

Gaynor has also been a vocal homophobic and transphobic detractor of ADF efforts to promote LGBTI inclusion and equality amongst its members. Most notably, Gaynor led a campaign to stop any ADF involvement with the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, something he has likened to child abuse.

“If you then knew that on this excursion [to Mardi Gras] my children would be exposed to nudity, sexually explicit activity and groups promoting sado-masochistic homosexual practices and clad in leather like they were about to begin, you would probably think about calling in the child protection agency,” Gaynor said on his website.

The now ex-reservist has also taken aim at the speechwriter for General Morrison, Lieutenant Colonel Cate McGregor AM  who underwent transitioning to become a woman in 2012  accusing “him” of being a “full-time cross dresser”.

Gaynor has not taken the news well, accusing the military of being “corrupted” at the top.

“At this stage, the Australian Defence Force will be marching in Sydney with those who vilify Jesus Christ and Christianity next year and General Hurley will be Governor of NSW,” Gaynor said.

Gaynor has indicated he is seeking legal advice in order to “rectify” the ADF’s decision.

  1. I do wish queer bigots like you would get a wider range of vocabulary. It’s always the same , lame terms of abuse “douche-bag” – dirty and pathetic.
    Gaynor is a hero.
    You are a zero.

  2. The article above is inaccurate when it accuses Gaynor of trying to keep queers out of the forces. All he actually did was to complain about the illegal wearing of uniform by forces personnel when taking part in obscene parades. What they did was clearly against military regulations,
He was right and they were wrong, The military has been stupid and bigoted to sack him. The bullying here is coming from the LGBT side – which it usually does these days. Frankly I think the parades shold be banned altogether.
Certainly the author of this article should print an apology to Bernard GAynor for misrepresentation.
It’s clear that the majority of people commening here support Gaynor and rightly – he has done mnothing wrong,
I am disgusted by the toxic outburst of David Rook above. His message of hate is despicable. Gaynor is a splendid, fine officer who was a valuable asset to the forces and they are MAD to sack him.
    What a loss to Australia.

  3. Gaynor is accused of being homophobic but displays no irrational fear. He has Christian principles and is outspoken about them. Others who do not have Christian values who also speak out that all the homosexual inclusion is degrading the moral fiber of society are also put down in a similar fashion.

It is not that those who disagree hate or would want to rid the world of these people. They well understand that homosexuality has been around forever and always will be. They tolerate these people but argue against the normalising of it in society and the encouragement of homosexuality among impressionable youths

You will find that they tolerate others very well, but the homosexual lobby fails totally to tolerate anyone with opinions that do not agree with them. They demand tolerance to their views while not delivering tolerance to the opposing view.

There are none so intolerant as those do-gooders and homosexuals who demand tolerance – it’s a one way street.

  4. People with SSA deserve respect, but promoting and living a homosexual lifestyle is intrinsically wrong and disordered. They label us as homophobes. This term often is used by homosexual activists to end rational discussion of the issue by accusing us of having an irrational fear. This is so uncalled for. One can disagree with and be critical of a behaviour without having a fear of it. When the charge of “homophobia” is made, it signifies that those making the accusation do not have reasoned responses to their critics, so they switch to portraying their critics as irrational rather than responding to their arguments.

  5. I completely support Gaynor. He has every right to voice his own personal opinions. It’s hypocritical that he is being sacked for personal beliefs when the common label used by LGBT supporters against authentic Catholics/ Christians is ‘judgemental’, ‘bigots’ and a whole lo of other sentimental words that ignore logic. They are in fact being exactly what they ignorantly label us. The ADF aren’t supposed to show any support for political movements, especially one that derails family and traditional families. If they do want to, then they should also join a traditional marriage float or pro-life campaign to make it fair. Otherwise, they should continue to remain neutral. S-I-M-P-L-E. The homosexual lifestyle is detrimental for people involved and put’s their physical health and souls in jeopardy. God bless you Gaynor!

  6. Ancient Sparta had a very gay military that was very powerful in wars. Also, nudity was accepted in Ancient Greece which gave us our concepts of ideal beauty in art. Of course you need to guide your children but you don’t need to be a Luddite and a fear-mongering prude about it, otherwise your kids will only grow up to be repressed.

    • So what? Gaynor has never suggested that homosexuals should not be permitted in the qa rmy. They are spewing out all sorts of lies about Gaynor all over the media.
Ancient Sparta was a disgusting place where women were treated like dirt. Boys were taken from their mothers at age 6 and brought up by men who buggered them. The whole society was based on slavery – Spartans captured and brutally enslaved those they conquered in war, and forced these captives to do all the work. They had the death penalty for hundreds of petty offences.
Sparta gives a good idea of how unfree and how revolting life is when queer bulles rule society.

  7. Well done to General Hurley – he is clearly a decent, strong and brave leader who tells it like it is, this nasty gay hating officer’s career is over, and his disgraceful exit will haunt him for the rest of his life, as it should – for this officer to hate gay soldiers the way he has done was and is appalling and it’s wonderful to hear that General Hurley terminated this douche bag.
