MARRICKVILLE Council has said that places are still available at its third annual talkfest with members of the LGBTI community to be held this week.
Broadcaster and long time gay activist Julie McCrossin will facilitate the LGBTIQ Forum to be held on Wednesday (June 11).
Marrickville Mayor Jo Haylen said the council prided itself on being a leader when it came to diversity.
“I strongly encourage community members to embrace this unique opportunity, and take a hands-on approach to making our society a better, stronger and more inclusive place to live and work,” she said.
Issues up for discussion at the forum include ageing in the LGBTI community, the recently signed homophobia protocol for major sporting leagues the building of safe, inclusive and creative spaces for LGBTI people.
Julie McCrossin said it was fantastic local LGBTI people were being given: “the opportunity to gather and discuss local issues of personal concern and raise them directly with staff and councillors.
“This frank, open democratic process helps to improve mainstream services and provide ideas for new special initiatives.”
The LGBTIQ Forum will be held on Wednesday June 11, 5pm-8pm at the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre, 1 Bedford St, Newtown.
Those interested in attending can still attend but should call 9335 2143 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve a place.
