Applications now open for Aurora’s small grants program

COMMUNITY groups can now apply for up to $5000 through Aurora’s Small Grants program.

Organisations who are working to provide a benefit to LGBTI communities in NSW and have deductible gift recipient status have until October 17 to apply.

“Aurora’s family of generous supporters donate so that together we can give a helping hand to organisations doing vital work for the GLBT community,” Aurora chairperson Adam Niewand said.

Last year, $30,000 was awarded to seven organisations, including the Gender Centre to create a short film and workshop transphobic bullying in schools; The Benevolent Society to fund a story book depicting LGBTI foster carer families; and Twenty10 to support Camp Out’s overnight camp experience for young people, who would benefit from peer support, health and community education and advocacy.

“Community organisations can find it hard to get government funding even though they are changing – and saving – lives,” Niewand said.

“If you need a bit of extra help to continue working for the benefit of GLBT communities in NSW or you have a special project that meets the Aurora Grants criteria, we encourage you to apply.”

Aurora is a charity that, through fundraising efforts, has provided vital financial support to NSW LGBTI community organisations over the years.

Application forms for the Small Grants program are available online at www.auroragroup.com.au. Applications close October 17.
