Calvin Harris to play Mardi Gras

Superstar DJ Calvin Harris will play the 2011 Mardi Gras Party.

Harris, who has worked with some of the world’s best-known artists including Kylie Minogue, will be in town as the support act for rumoured Mardi Gras performer Rhianna.

He will join the DJ line-up in the Hordern Pavillion.

The 27-year-old Scottish electro popster, whose massive dance hits include Acceptable in the ‘80s and I’m Not Alone, is considered the dance and electro voice of his generation.

Bursting onto the scene with his audacious 2007 album I Created Disco, he introduced a game-changing style of ‘80s-inspired electroclash to the world.

Harris soon became a household name with floor-filling hit singles such as Acceptable in the ‘80s and The Girls. After hearing the album, Kylie asked to work with him – leading to a key role as producer on her 2007 album X.

This lead to his second album Ready For The Weekend, which went to number one in the UK and climbed Top 10 charts throughout Europe.

Singles I’m Not Alone, Ready For The Weekend and Flashback remain dance-floor favourites in clubs around the world, with
Harris performing at the biggest festivals including the UK’s Glastonbury and Big Day Out.

“We’re very excited to have Calvin Harris behind the decks at Mardi Gras Party,” NMG CEO Michael Rolik said.

“He’s been leading the electro genre for years and is the perfect big-room sound for the Hordern.

“Each year our Party continues to attract elite international talent as one of the nation’s most innovative and exciting events.
There are more names still to join the line-up so watch this space.”

Harris joins a stunning Party line-up, which combines international acts with the very best home-grown talent. Playing alongside Harris in the Hordern is Godfather of House Frankie Knuckles, electroclash creator and NYC legend
Larry Tee and Spanish star Steven Redant.

Seamus Haji (UK), Yinon Yahel (Tel Aviv) and Francisco Guerra (San Fran) will be spreading the love in the RHI.

Australian acts are set to include the Kate Monroe, Murray Hood, Kam Shafaati, Sveta and Feisty as well as Bob Downe’s All-Star Retro-Gras.
