Dannii rallies for gay marriage

Dannii Minogue will offer her support for same-sex marriage via a pre-recorded statement made for this weekend’s National Day of Action.

Rally organisers are anticipating a rise in numbers from the last march, as disgruntled voters attempt to sway the federal Government before the election.

If the draw-card of a specially-recorded message from a Minogue isn’t enticing enough, then remember, this is a prime time for political lobbying.

“This is an election year, so it is really important we keep the pressure on politicians to show full support for same-sex marriage,” Community Action Against Homophobia co-convenor Benjamin Cooper said. “If we continue pushing for this, we can achieve it.

“Our government needs to wake up and see that no one deserves second class rights. In order to do that though, we need everyone to be there, at Town Hall at 1pm.

“The rally will also mark the beginning of a week of events for International Day Against Homophobia, so we hope to see a lot of people showing their support for equal marriage rights.”

CAAH co-convenor Cat Rose added, “the government needs to catch up with the times, instead of pursuing a homophobic agenda at the expense of the lives of LGBTI youth, who continue to commit suicide at an alarming rate.

Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union NSW Secretary, Andrew Ferguson will lead the march.

City of Sydney Greens councillor Irene Doutney will also take to the stage, alongside Aboriginal activist Jenny Munro, Palestinian queer rights activist Samar Habeeb and 2Day FM’s Geoff Field, who will MC the event.

“Until the law is changed, GLBT people remain second class citizens,” Field said. “We must keep the pressure on politicians, some of whom are still listening to minority of Australians who support discrimination.

“I strongly support marriage for everyone, regardless of their gender. If two people are in love and want to get married, they should have that right.”

The Rally for same-sex marriage begins 1pm, Saturday May 15, at Sydney Town Hall.

  1. Well done Geoff and all the other people at the rally.
Great to see so many people out in force

  2. I’ll be there again, but I hope the organisers can do something about the huge and irrelevant banners and posters that pop up at every march. Passers-by thought it was for Socialist construction workers! Let’s start with an appropriate sign for the side of the truck which faces George St. I’ll help!

  3. Please come along.
Even if you are having a big night.
Equal rights are more important that clubbing boys and girls !
