Darwin Outgames calls for volunteers

ABOUT 600 volunteers are needed to help with the running of next year’s Asia Pacific Outgames, which will be held in Darwin.

A variety of roles are available for those interested in helping at the event that’s due to run for a week on May 10-16.

18 sports will be on offer at the Darwin Outgames, with each requiring a team of volunteers, including people with specific referee, umpiring and technical knowledge.

Other areas of the Outgames will also require assistance, such as parties and other cultural activities, accreditation, functions, transport and ceremonies.

A human rights forum to take place during the Outgames will also need the assistance of a voluntary team to ensure it meets international conference standards.

Darwin Outgames 2014 board member Olivia Birkett said volunteers would be invaluable and key to the running of the event.

“For a minimum of 10 hours voluntary assistance, you will be provided with a volunteer t-shirt, a participation pack, event accreditation and the perks of being involved with this exciting event,” she said.

Registrations are now open online and will close on April 10.
