Missing man found dead

Missing Sydney man Ben Roper has been found dead in the basement of his Randwick apartment building.

The 32-year old flight attendant, who was well known in the gay community, was reported missing after family and friends did not hear from him after he left his Prince St home at around 7pm on Saturday, January 26.

A spokesman from the Eastern Beaches Local Area Command police office said that while details were being withheld at present out of respect to Roper’s family, his death was not being treated as suspicious.

Roper’s disappearance triggered a social media campaign, with loved ones and celebrities including comedian Julia Morris urging people to report any information or sightings of the man to police over Twitter and Facebook.

At the time of his disappearance Roper was on heavy medication to treat back pain, and had received homophobic voicemail messages from a blocked number on his mobile phone.
