New gay radio station hits airwaves

oxA new Sydney-based gay radio station is set to launch its flagship breakfast show next month.

OX Live, a completely digital gay music and talk radio channel based out of Oxford St, was launched in April to fill a gap in the local gay radio market left when Sydney’s last all-gay radio station, Beat FM, ceased broadcast in 2007. Melbourne’s Joy 94.9FM community radio station has been the only major LGBTI radio network for several years.

OX Live founder Brooklyn Ross says it’s time the gap was filled.

“I’m just shocked Sydney doesn’t have a full-time gay radio station already – other groups have given it a red hot go in the past, but none have been able to stay on the air,” Ross told SameSame.

The first instalment of the “JQ & Casey All-Star” breakfast program, due to go live on July 1, will feature Liberal City of Sydney Councillor Christine Forster talking local politics and the upcoming electoral test faced by her brother, Opposition Leader Tony Abbott.

While OX Live does not have an analog bandwidth, it is freely available via numerous radio smartphone apps and online.
