Salt Shakers call for retraction

Salt Shakers call for retraction

The Salt Shakers, a Christian fundamentalist group, have called on the owners of Marquette Turner Luxury Homes to retract their support for same-sex marriage on the Australian Marriage Equality (AME) website because same-sex marriage is against Australian law.

The Australian government has, at present, refused to grant legal recognition of overseas same-sex -˜marriages’. As this is the current law, recognising same-sex -˜marriages’ is undermining the position of the Australian government, Salt Shakers representative Jenny Stokes wrote.

We are concerned at your agreement with this stance promoted by the homosexual lobby, Australian Marriage Equality, and ask that you retract it.

Marquette Turner is one of 17 organisations, including IBM, Westpac, the Commonwealth Bank and the City of Sydney, to have registered support for same-sex marriage on AME’s website.

  1. re- The banks, Commonwealth and Westpac. I imagine that there policy on gay marriage is as much administrative as it is political. Its much easier for them and for their customers to tick a married box then it is to determine defacto status when dealing with estates, trust funds etc.

  2. If Jesus hated gays he would of spoken about them. He would of made a huge point about it, like the Salt Shakers try to do. The fact is he never did. And as for other stories in the Bible it is a question of translation.

Harvard Proffessors say Baptist and others like them always get it wrong. That is why almost half the Anglicans do not support gay hate, the majority of the Uniting Church does not, and most people. History has shown that the translation of a few key words depends on what the society does like or not like at the time. It is now accepted when refering to gay men in many parts of the Bible it was about being a child sex offender and not a gay person. Some recent translations say this.

Gay marriage is thousands of years old. It is a shame lies are constantly put out about this. Even in Papua New Guinea anthropologist have found gay couples accepted by the tribe. In Indonesia men who dressed as women had an important place dealing with conflict. I guess the Salt Shakers are of the ilk that viewed our aboriginal people as savages as they had there own culture.

The Salt Shakers will argue free speech etc but Hitler had lots of that and look where that got groups in the community he did not like.

If the Salt Shakers cannot except gay marriage, then clearly they cannot except people have different religions and cultures. If we persue this intolerance then where does it lead? They have defended those that vilify muslims, and more. Do they want a society where every group is at war fighting each other or do they want a tolerant one? So far there actions have demonstrated they want war, not love but hate, hate for those who are not Salt Shakers.

It must be awful being a Salt Shaker devoting your life to denying others happiness.

  3. Peter Stokes, British Migrant and former bus driver, started the Salt Shakers back in the 90’s. I have found him to be full of hate and have a very poor understanding of the Bible as most hate groups do.

When he can he goes onto vilify people who are gay. His latest episode is on the Victorian Family Council website where he goes and on and on about what a bad role model our Olympic diver is simply for being gay. See http://www.fcv.org.au/index.php/news for the story.

Better still everyone lets write to http://www.cameroncreative.com/ or Quest who give facilities to this hate group. Use the tactics against those them.

My boss is catholic and supports gay rights.

  4. Retraction? Hey, Stokes – GO F*CK YOURSELF.

There. It was time someone said it.

  5. Andrew M Potts – no metion of it on the commbank website, but lots of stuff about supporting charities. I wonder what they are so scared of given that “a significant proportion of their employees, customers and shareholders are gay”?

  6. James, it would most likely be the Board of the bank- probably because they realise which way the winds of history are blowing, and that a significant proportion of their employees, customers and shareholders are gay, and in light of that it’s worth ensuring that they don’t lose their money and skills to other banks.

  7. James – “really, you can’t compare the corporate support of charities to the championing of same-sex marriage. I just wonder who in the Commonwealth Bank makes these decisions on behalf of 3,000 employees and many thousands of shareholders”

Look James there are employees who work at Commonwealth Bank who are against gay marriage, but there is also employees who support it. You cant please everbody, whenever a decision is made there’s allways going to be someone who does not agree, so with your thinking no decisions would ever get made. Face it James some people actually support gay marriage.

  8. Chris – if you re-read what I wrote regarding the councillor, I was actually pointing out that he was being a hypocrite. Not sure how that makes me a bible-basher, not that I am.

In calling me a bigot because you suspect that I have “bible bashing agendas” I think that makes you rather heterophobic. Tolerance please Chris!

  9. james….HA H A HA …revealing your bible bashing agendas clearly here you bigot!!!

‘Kogarah Council is on the list. As a ratepayer to this council, I contacted the Councillor some time ago who was championing -œgay rights and I asked him why his interest in these matters was not raised in his last election campaign. I also asked him why he was championing -œgay rights in the final days in his role as councillor and not earlier. Finally, I asked him how he reconciles participating in the opening prayer at council meetings with his apparent sudden interest in -œgay rights and -œgay marraige. I didn’t receive a reply.

  10. Jason – really, you can’t compare the corporate support of charities to the championing of same-sex marriage. I just wonder who in the Commonwealth Bank makes these decisions on behalf of 3,000 employees and many thousands of shareholders.

  11. James – “I’d also like to know how public companies, such as the Commonwealth Bank, justify being added to the list on this website”

Simple they support same-sex marriage, what more is there to justify than that. Do companies that support sports groups or charities justify there reasons ? Generally no because most people see it as a good cause, just like supporting same-sex marriage is a good cause.

  12. Peter – “As for writing to the owners of Marquette Turner Luxury Homes and asking them to retract their support for same-sex marriage -“ yes we did. Just as we wrote to all companies on the list. It is against the Marriage act and the government have stated that Australian law does not recognise overseas -˜marriages’. Therefore, non of these companies should do so”

Once again you advocate for free speech yet you are against free speech by these companies which support same-sex marriage, Peter have you got your shoes on the right feet ? And you point out in your post my miss-spelled word beastiality, yet your post has heaps of spelling mistakes, Peter you are a huge hypocrite !!!

  13. Peter – “Nowhere on our web site, or anywhere else, do we claim -œthat homosexuality and beastility (sic) is linked”

Peter you are not telling the truth, Do you remember the submission you sent to the federal government regarding the law reform ? In the submission you state:

“That being true, if we can decide that one type of unnatural relationship is equal to a natural marriage relationship, why can’t we decide that other types of unnatural relationship are also equal? What of multiple partner relationships -“ adult/child relationships -“ sibling relationships -“ even relationships with animals?”

NOTICE the word animals, the last word of your paragraph!!!

  14. Peter, Fancy seeing you on this website. I want to know what makes you think you can try and dictate what we can and cant watch on television ? For instance in 2004 your so-called “christian” group ran a campaign against The L Word which was not rated G and it was screened at 10.30pm at night, and on your website you state “Freedom of speech is under attack around the world” and yet your attacking freedom on speech by trying to remove the L Word off our television screens ? You cant have it both ways. I also notice on your you claim “christian ethics in action” yet I thought being a “christian” was based on the true love of everyone and true forgiveness of everyone. If that is the case you cant be true “christians” because there is nothing but obvious hate directed towards homosexuality on your website Peter, your a total fraud who thinks you know best, well the only thing you know Peter is sh*t. I hope you enjoy encouraging homophobia, shame on you and your miss-guided organisation. I look forward to your response peter.

  15. Peter Stokes – I’d be interested to hear what responses you get, if any, from the organisations you contacted. I’d also like to know how public companies, such as the Commonwealth Bank, justify being added to the list on this website.

Kogarah Council is on the list. As a ratepayer to this council, I contacted the Councillor some time ago who was championing “gay rights” and I asked him why his interest in these matters was not raised in his last election campaign. I also asked him why he was championing “gay rights” in the final days in his role as councillor and not earlier. Finally, I asked him how he reconciles participating in the opening prayer at council meetings with his apparent sudden interest in “gay rights” and “gay marraige”. I didn’t receive a reply.

  16. Are these christosupremacists (The Salt Shakers) so politically naive that they actually believe they can change minds by writing demanding letters asking people to not “undermine the position of the Australian government”?

Being lectured to by a fringe group of pushy religious dogmatics is more likely to increase support for marriage equality in Australia, not diminish it.

    Hilarious.

Almost as hilarious as believing in a fictional sky-god yet lecturing others about LOGIC.

Oh the banality, Peter Stokes. How about “The Australian government removed ministerial veto over the abortifacient RU486. As this is the current law, your opposition is undermining the position of the Australian government. I am concerned at your shared stance with the Australian Christian Lobby and ask that you retract it.” You tosser.

  17. It’s not as if the Saltshakers are real Christians anyhow. In years gone by, they would have been burnt at the stake for the filthy heretics they are. Isabella of Spain had the right idea. It’s a just a shame Catholicism has gone soft on these people.

  18. With reference to the above article I want to make three points 1. Re Fundamentalism, 2. Re Beastiality, or beastility as Jason calls it and 3 Marriage.

    1. Re Fundamentalism
Yes, Salt Shakers IS a Christian “fundamentalist” group. We believe in God’s Word which are meant to be the fundamental beliefs of all those who call themselves Christians.
The fact that some have compromised those fundamental beliefs does not automatically make our position wrong or theirs right. The Bible has not changed, we have not moved from it and nor has a large part of the Christian Church which remains fundamental in its beliefs.
If others want to believe different things, that is fine, just don’t call it Christian.

    2. Re Beastiality.
Nowhere on our web site, or anywhere else, do we claim -œthat homosexuality and beastility (sic) is linked.
We state that the only place for sexual activity is within a marriage between a man and a woman.
The Bible lists many other types of sexual activity, including homosexuality and bestiality, that are wrong and that is what we state.
If I said smoking and lying were wrong, am I suggesting that they are the same? NO.
Am I suggesting that all or even some liers smoke or that all smokers lie? Of course not.
So there is NO logic in Jason’s suggestion that we link homosexuals with beastiality.
That said, to suggest that NO homosexuals engage in beastiality would be a silly as to suggest that NO heterosexuals engage in it. It is unnatural either way, just like anal sex.
    3. Marraige
As for writing to the owners of Marquette Turner Luxury Homes and asking them to retract their support for same-sex marriage -“ yes we did. Just as we wrote to all companies on the list. It is against the Marriage act and the government have stated that Australian law does not recognise overseas -˜marriages’. Therefore, non of these companies should do so.

  19. Im surpised that the Salt Shakers are not trying to ban gays entering the zoo on the concern that we might enter the tiger enclosure as they claim on there website that homosexuality and beastility is linked. Opps Ive given the Salt Shakers an idea – look out for there lobbying to put signs on the tiger encloser warning gay men to keep out and we then will have Fred Nile tabling legislation in the NSW State government to ban gays from associating with tigers or lions in the zoo LOL. I hope a member of the Salt Shakers reads this comment so they realise how pathetic linking homosexuality and beastility really is.

  20. It’s all very well of the Salt Shakers to make their demands, but do they seriously expect the the owners of Marquette Luxury Homes listen to them?

  21. Everyone has a right under Australian law to actively seek to change those laws with which they disagree by any and every legal method available to them. The method chosen by the owners of Marquette Turner Luxury Homes to support same-sex marriage is a legal method of seeking to change a law with which they disagree.

Marriage is a legal right which should not be denied to homosexuals.

Australian homosexuals should have the same rights as every other Australian citizen.

The Salt Shakers, a Christian fundamentalist group, have called on the owners of Marquette Turner Luxury Homes to retract their support for same-sex marriage on the Australian Marriage Equality (AME) website because same-sex marriage is against Australian law.

The owners of Marquette Turner Luxury Homes support same sex marriage on a matter of conscience. The Salt Shakers are asking the owners of Marquette Turner Luxury Homes to act against their consciences and retract their support for same-sex marriage.

The request by the Salt Shakers is offensive, arrogant, bigoted and implies that the owners of Marquette Turner Luxury Homes should deny their conscientious beliefs by displacing their own beliefs with those of people who would deny homosexuals the same rights as all other Australians.

I call on the owners of Marquette Turner Luxury Homes to not retract their support for same-sex marriage.

I call on the owners of Marquette Turner Luxury Homes to ignore the request from Salt Shakers to deny their own conscientious beliefs and displace those beliefs with those of people who would deny homosexuals the same rights as all other Australians.

  22. So IBM and the Commonwealth Bank support same sex marriage? What exactly does this mean? Did they ask the shareholders of their opinion?

  23. Don’t these people know that salt shakers are bad for the heart?
