Uni students to march in parade

Queer and queer-friendly students of the University of Sydney will have a float in the Mardi Gras parade for the first time this year. The float, which is aiming to field the maximum 100-person float limit, has the endorsement of the university itself as well as student bodies the University of Sydney Union and the Students’ Representative Council.

The float is being jointly run by the University of Sydney’s various queer student social and advocacy groups, including the Queer Action Collective, queer society SHADES, performers the Queer Revue Society. Float coordinator Fahad Ali said the float was an opportunity for the university’s queer students to make their mark on the parade.

“This will bring together the entire queer community of Sydney Uni. This is so we can stand together and tell the rest of the community that we’re here, and we’re proud to be here,” Ali said.
