Celebrate 30 years of pride in the Top End

Celebrate 30 years of pride in the Top End

WHEN the week-long Darwin Pride festival begins tomorrow, a huge focus will be on celebrating how far it has come since its humble beginnings in 1985.

Paying homage to communities of past, present and future, the festival’s launch party will be followed by a Pride Film Night in honour of the first Darwin pride event 30 years ago — which started with a film night.

Other events during the festival include a gay history walk run by historian Dr Dino Hodge, the State Reference Library will showcase the Northern Territory’s LGBTI history and on October 4, the family-friendly Funday Sunday will take over Civic Park — which includes the a dog pageant competition.

Darwin Pride festival runs until Monday, October 5.
