Pride WA announces dates for Perth PrideFest’s 25th anniversary

PRIDE Western Australia has announced this year’s PrideFest key dates to celebrate the contribution the state’s LGBTI community to arts and culture over the past 25 years.

The festival will run for 16 days, from November 6 to November 22. Pride Parade will take place on November 21 from 8pm.

Pride WA president Michelle Rigg also announced plans to expand the festival throughout Perth’s Northbridge neighbourhood and around the state.

“This is an important milestone to celebrate, and we plan to make PrideFest even bigger and better than before,” she said.

“This year, we are hoping to double spectator numbers at the Parade, bringing more people into Northbridge to celebrate with us.”

There are also plans to further enhance PrideFest technically by adding high-quality acts and artists, stage management and additional seating and sound effects.

Rigg emphasised that this year’s festivities would aim to further develop the spirit of inclusion and community diversity, as well as grow the festival’s arts and culture line up.

“By its very nature, PrideFest challenges boundaries, gets people talking and makes the community think about the real meaning of diversity and inclusivity, whether it be gender, sexuality, age, ethnic background, colour, religion or social status, in a contemporary community setting,” she said.

Pride WA’s Fair Day will also return to Perth’s Hyde Park as a part of the Fringeworld festival in February 2016.

·      PrideFest will run for 16 days, from Friday, November 6 to Sunday, November 22.

·      The Pride Parade will be staged on Saturday, November 21, the second last day of the festival, commencing at 8pm.
