Motown melodies from MGLC
The Melbourne Gay and Lesbian Chorus (MGLC) heads to Motown for Blame It On the Boogie, its annual concert on Saturday, June 18 in Moonee Ponds.
Now in its final rehearsal phase, the concert will be a funky feast of disco balls, afros and iconic Motown hits from Heard It Through the Grapevine to Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.
The huge number of well-loved classics from the Motown era made it difficult for musical director Adrian Schultz to keep the program to the two-hour timeframe.
“There was just so much to choose from,” he said.
“We’ve narrowed it down to the songs that are the most iconic of the era, and the ones that are the most impressive when performed by such a big group of singers.”
The MGLC is now in its 21st year, and for this concert will be joined by the Melbourne Gay and Lesbian Youth Chorus, which was founded in 2005.
“We’re keeping a few surprises up our sleeves,” Schultz hinted. “But we’re ready to bring Motown to Moonee Ponds in a very big way!”
