Two Fremantle Dockers players announced their surprise engagement yesterday.

Kara Donnellan proposed to teammate Ebony Antonio while on holiday in Uluwatu, Indonesia.

The couple announced their engagement on Instagram.

“I finally gave in and put a ring on it!” posted Donnellan.

“I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with you @ebonyantonio12, you complete me and I bloody love you!”

Antonio winkingly posted on her own account that it was “about bloody time”.

“I can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together,” she wrote.

“I love you, now where’s my puppy?”

Thousands of friends and fans have congratulated the couple on their engagement.

Donnellan and Antonio are not the only open couple in the women’s league.

St Kilda players Penny Cula-Reid and Mia-Rae Clifford have been together six years and are also engaged.

AFLW held its first Pride Match this year, championing LGBTI people in football.

“[The Pride Match is] pioneering and it’s breaking down barriers in so many ways,” said Carlton player Sophie Li.

“As a gay person, I feel like it’s so amazing to be able to celebrate pride and to come together and celebrate the LGBTI community.”
