Activists on terror ‘hitlist’

London’s gay venues are the latest targets for terrorist activity by Islamic fundamentalists, according to new warnings issued in the British capital this week.
Gay lobby group Outrage! called for the immediate introduction of bag and body searches in all gay bars and clubs in London this week, claiming gay and lesbian Londoners are under serious threat.
Our community could be their next target -“ this is no time for complacency, Outrage!’s Peter Tatchell said this week. Gay venues could be bombed by Islamic terrorists.
Muslim fundamentalists have a violent hatred of lesbians and gay men. They believe we should be killed.
The urgent warning, two weeks after the 7 July bombings throughout the city, followed death threats made to Tatchell and fellow Outrage! members Brett Lock and Aaron Saeed, the group’s spokesperson on Muslim affairs.
The Outrage! trio had been warned they were on a hitlist and would be beheaded and chopped up, in accordance with Islamic law.
The threats, made in a series of phone calls, also warned of attacks on the gay community. Just you wait, you’ll see, the Outrage! members were told. We are going to punish you all.
Brett Lock has called for extra security and vigilance in popular gay areas throughout the UK, most notably London’s Soho and Manchester’s Canal Street.
If terrorists want to attack the gay community, they may well attempt to detonate a bomb in a crowded gay bar, restaurant, club or community centre, Lock said. The bombings on 7 July are unlikely to be the last.
In April 1999, Outrage! issued a similar warning in the wake of the neo-nazi bombing of Brick Lane, the centre of the city’s biggest Bangladeshi community in London’s East End. Five days later, neo-nazi David Copeland bombed the Admiral Duncan gay bar in Soho, killing three people.
