Punk rock fans know the Ramones have been dropping like flies during the past couple of years. Luckily, a Melbourne three-piece girl band is ready to resurrect where those skinny boys with bad hair and ripped straight-legged jeans left off.

The Spazzys make three-minute pop rock songs about boys and love and guitars and fun, just like the Ramones did. And just like the Ramones, they’re not about pretending to be musical geniuses.

Highlights include the infectious single Paco Doesn’t Love Me, the hard-rocking cover of My Boyfriend’s Back and the lyrics of the silly I Wanna Cut My Hair Like Marky Ramone.

The girls have copped a bit of grief during their short, sharp and successful career for sounding a bit too much like their musical heroes, but that’s rubbish really. There’s plenty of room in the music world for more three-minute rock songs.
