Altogether, a very gay Saturday

Altogether, a very gay Saturday

No-one will be starved of fun, free entertainment this Saturday, with two diverse events planned for the gay and lesbian community.

Together is a multicultural performance and picnic day which will be held in Green Park from 12:30pm. Singers, dancers, models and musicians will perform in a showcase of cultural diversity within the gay and lesbian community.

It’s all about seeing difference as a positive thing, Together organiser Cameron Lindsay says.

Homophobia is a very important issue but we also need to acknowledge that racism, sexism and ageism occur within the lesbian and gay community.

Brown Skin, the gay Asian dance group featured at the Midnight Shift Gaysha parties will perform twice. Cabaret singer Ricky Lau, the Sydney Homotones and a gay and lesbian choir will provide music. There will also be an Aussie Boys and Blunt fashion parade.

The Together picnic is free. Later in the day and about eight kilometres west, the Royale Variety Performance Show will turn Marrickville Town Hall into a one-evening drag spectacular.

Billed as a free event in the presence of the queens (and kings) of Marrickville the variety show will feature Vanessa Wagner, Sexy Galexy, Frumpus, The Frocks and Timothy Woon.

Would-be celebrities can take part in an open microphone session. Everyone is invited to bring picnics and blankets to the Marrickville Town Hall, 303 Marrickville Road. Ring 9335 2222 for more information.
