Asia party go-ahead

A major Asian gay and lesbian dance party rejected by Singapore for being contrary to public interest will take place in Thailand in November, despite earlier opposition from locals.

The Nation Party, said to be Asia’s largest festival, will go ahead as scheduled in Phuket from 4-6 November after gaining approval from officials last Friday, 365Gay.com reported.

In an apparent concession to Phuket residents who expressed fears revellers would be too noisy and discourage straight visitors, Nation Party organisers agreed festivities would end at 1am each night.

This year’s event is expected to attract at least 2,000 LGBT partygoers to Phuket.
