Aussie on award shortlist

Australian author and GLBT rights advocate Maria Pallotta-Chiarolli has made the list of finalists for the Oscars of queer publishing.

Pallotta-Chiarolli’s debut novel, Love You Two, has been nominated for the best bisexual fiction category of the Lambda literary awards.

The coming-of-age story of multiple cultures, and multiple takes on sexuality, focuses on Pina, a young woman who discovers that her family’s situation may not be as straight as she thought. The novel was inspired by Pallotta-Chiarolli’s experience as a community worker and academic work on sexual, family and cultural diversity.

She said the book was an attempt to “write a comforting, funny, challenging and realistic book for young people and the adults in their lives who love ‘differently’, whose families are misunderstood, misrepresented and hidden, so that they could find themselves”.

The winners of the Lamda Awards will be announced in late May.

info: Love You Two, published by Random House, can be found at all good bookstores, including the Darlinghurst Bookshop.
