Beautiful Thing

Beautiful Thing

Lovers of the play and film Beautiful Thing will remember the story’s bleak setting, with gay lerv blossoming in the grim Thameshead Estate in south-east London. Director Jonathan Llewellyn is presenting Jonathan Harvey’s play Beautiful Thing at the Q Theatre in Penrith, partly because of the similarities between the play’s setting and the director’s home out west. (For the record, Llewellyn loves Penrith, but notes the difficulties for young gay men coming out in the area.) If you haven’t seen the play it’s deliciously romantic, and may well be worth the train trip. Tickets are $19 (no concessions) and may be booked on (02)4721 8832. Catch it from 24 September.
