Bentstix triumphs

Sydney/ Melbourne rivalry hit the hockey field last weekend as the newly formed Melbourne Bentstix took on their Sydney Bentstix rivals at Albert Park – and won.
In a “friendly” game designed to give the new team some practice in the lead-up to next year’s Outgames, the Melbourne boys beat the Sydney side by five goals to one.
Early on, the Melbourne team gave away several penalties, but a few excellent saves from the goalkeeper left the Sydney boys goalless until the dying minutes of the game.
After the game, Bentstix spokesman Andrew Phillips said the result was “surprising”.
“We’ve only been together for a few weeks but we played really well.”
He told Melbourne’s bnews the Sydney club had sent its B side down for the match, but that didn’t stem the enthusiasm for their performance.
