Black takes ninth council spot, Pooley tenth

Gay guesthouse owner and Surry Hills heritage advocate Phillip Black will join new Lord Mayor Clover Moore on the new City of Sydney council.

Black was the fifth candidate on Clover Moore’s independent ticket.

I’m a bit stunned, actually, he told the Star the morning after the official result was announced.

And I’m looking forward to the journey ahead. It’s an historic time for the City of Sydney.

Former South Sydney Mayor Tony Pooley won the tenth spot on council, joining fellow ALP candidates Michael Lee and Verity Firth.

Council is likely to commence its regular meeting schedule in May.
