Blacktown gets group for gay men
The newly formed Blacktown Outdoors and Social Group is the only community group for gay men in the Blacktown district.
“They’re already a few groups for lesbians, but nothing to support gay men in our area, something I had to change,” group founder Mike Moore said.
“We get together on the second Sunday of every month for activities in and out of Sydney. We are next spending a day at the heritage centre in Garden Island and hitting the local pubs in the evening.
“It’s just a great way to meet gay people in the area. New friendships have been formed and it’s doing great things for all involved.”
Gay groups of this kind have had tremendous success, especially in western Sydney and rural areas. They assist in building strong support networks in the area.
“More gay men and women are moving to western Sydney. There is definitely a gay male population in Blacktown,” Moore said.
“We only hope our group will grow and move forward, catering for the growing gay population.”
