President George Bush last night reiterated his desire to see the federal constitution amended to ban same-sex marriage across America, and said the decision should not be left up to judges.

Bush said Monday’s California court ruling, which declared it wrong to ban gay marriage, showed why the amendment needed to be made.

“The court rulings are verifying why I took the position I took. And that is, I don’t believe judges ought to be deciding this issue,” he said at a press conference in Washington.
