He’s sexy, camp and even had make-up on his shirt collar in the interview. Dan Knight has ambitions to be Sydney’s next singing sensation and is trying to make his name shine by pitching himself to the gay scene.

This 19-year-old, England-born beauty wants to bring a little diversity to the music scene. With his unique sense of style and an accent to die for, Dan believes he has what it takes to become a star.

“I used to send out fifty letters a week to anyone that would open them. I sent producers all my photos and stuff,” he said.

“In the end, they told me to stop sending letters. And I said, ‘I’ll only stop only if you let me come in and meet you’ – I’ve been working with them ever since.”

His new single Dancefloor, which would fit comfortably into a Eurovision line-up, is already making waves on JOY FM and FBi. It will be followed by an album later this year.

“I’ve co-written and co-produced the album. It sounds very fun but everything has meaning,” Knight said.

“The next single is Brave New World. There’re other songs about dance as well. I did say no love songs, but there’s one there called A Thousand Sexy Ways.”

In the past month Knight’s MySpace page has been flooded by fans who have caught a sound bite on air or heard about his posse of drag queens.

“The gay scene has really embraced me and has been really kind. Everyone calls the new song the campest song in the world because I wrote it,” he said

But while Knight has the lucrative gay audience in his sights and freely admits to singing and writing camp tunes, his sexuality is a less clear subject.

“It’s been so long since I’ve been on a date. If anyone wants to remind me (about my sexuality), that would be good too,” he said. “I try not to go on about sexuality because I’m meant to be a performer of interest. It’s better to keep it open – never say never.”
