Canada’s 12,000 gay weddings

About 2,300 same-sex couples have married in Canada in the past six months, bringing the total number of Canadian gay marriages to more than 12,000 since the unions became legal last year.

Lobby group Canadians for Equal Marriage announced the figures earlier this week. Canada’s Conservative prime minister Stephen Harper has said he will introduce a vote in parliament on whether the gay marriage law should be revisited.

Harper has previously considered rolling back the law.
