Cheap spaces for creatives

The City of Sydney is calling for creative enterprises to set up on Oxford St.

Sixteen spaces will be offered at affordable rates on short-term agreements in a bid to make the area a more interesting place to live, visit and shop.

Expressions of interest for the spaces, which range from 48sqm to 130sqm, must be received by November 9.

“Making these spaces available, at lower rents and specifically for artists and creative enterprises, is about bringing a bohemian feel back to the strip,” Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore said.

Six-month leases will be offered before Christmas, with opportunities to extend for a further six months while other long-term activation projects for the precinct are rolled out.

The city is also seeking an innovative pop-up café or retail concept to activate a vacant property and outdoor area in Oxford Square and the ground floor of 1A Burton St, Darlinghurst.
