Delicious cabaret

The inner-west is alive with the sound of camp this Mardi Gras, and the all-women show Lemon Delicious is no exception.
Now in its fourth year, Lemon Delicious is a show within a show, part story of a breakdown tour to Dubbo, part song and dance extravaganza.

It’s basically fun and it’s a celebration of chickdom, director Louise Fischer says.

The performers are a mix of singers and actors who can really sell a song, Fischer says.

They perform group numbers, solos, duets and trios, and come complete with choreography clich?

We start with a great big version of The Real Thing, Fischer says.

During the show we go from Let Me Entertain You from Gypsy to Robbie Williams’s Let Us Entertain You.

We have a three-part a cappella version of Kylie’s I Believe In You and a four-part harmony of Pretty Woman. It’s a real mixed bag.

As is the audience, she says.

We get such a mixture of people. People come because it’s Mardi Gras, but because we’re in Newtown we also get the grandparents and everyone from the area, and they all love it.

We’re not offensive. We’re not pushing any political boundaries, so we appeal to a really wide range of people.

Lemon Delicious is on at @Newtown, 52 Enmore Rd, Newtown, on Wednesday 23 February from 8pm. Tickets are $25 at the door.
