Divas get sleazy

Two respected female performers have joined the bill for this weekend’s Sleaze Ball, joining the pantheon of pop stars who’ve performed at the event over the years.

Zoe Badwi and Mary Kiani will perform alongside a plethora of DJs including Dan Murphy, Eddie Coulter, Sveta, Kate Monroe, Beth Yen, Baby Bear, Adam Love and Beatrix. Badwi, riding high in the charts at the moment with current hit Freefallin’, is well-known to gay audiences through her work on the dance scene in recent years with the enduring club track Release Me.

Scottish singer Mary Kiani, ex-vocalist for The Time Frequency, has gained a loyal following thanks to her regular appearances in Sydney. Kiani will make her Sleaze debut as a performer this Saturday, but it won’t be the first time she’s experienced the event.

“My first ever ball in Sydney was Sleaze 13 years ago, and, yes, I did have a ball!” she said. “I’m so excited to come and sing at this year’s Sleaze Ball. What to sing? What to wear? Can’t wait!”

info: Sleaze Ball is on Saturday, October 2 at the Entertainment Quarter. Tickets start from $59 and are available from Moshtix.

  1. 2010 Sleaze was average, if not disappointing as a total package.
The music in the Dome was not working which was clearly evidenced by the venues being half empty and huge line up for entry into The Forum.
Very disappointing also not to see the usual leather and older crowd there. Did they boycott the event????
The theme “decadence” was weak, highlighted by only a few people dressing up vs last years “sports” theme, which was very popular.
Sleaze needs an urgent make over. The dance party concept should remain, and the Hordern should also return, but it needs to be more.
