RUNNING AWAY
Beleza Musica

I can’t pass on a soulful disco record, especially if it’s inspired by a distant but well-known Roy Ayers classic. At times this track reminds me of First Choice’s anthem Let No Man Put Asunder, recently covered by Mary J. Blige. But Beleza Musica is actually the good work of Bah Samba’s Julian Bendall. Bah Samba first caught our attention with their hit Reach Inside, featured on A Night At The Playboy Mansion by Dimitri Of Paris. This reworking of soulful disco is indeed a delicious platter.

SATELLITE OF LOVE 2004
Lou Reed

This track was remixed to accompany and lift the profile of Lou’s current greatest hits compilation. And it’s been rather successful. This is a wonderful reworking of the original -“ a delightful and happy song.

IS IT COS I’M COOL?
Mousse T feat. Emma Lanford

Mousse T is a long-time favourite producer of mine who’s been responsible for many a favourite dance track over the years including Horny not so long ago. Collaborating once again with his vocal muse Emma Lanford, the result is a fabulous, soulful dance track for some serious dancefloor shuffling.

TALK TO ME
Jill Scott

The anticipation was well worth the wait. After her fabulous Who Is Jill Scott? Words And Sound Vol 1, and her subsequent live CD set that followed, this amazing poet, social commentator, vocalist and songwriter has returned with a new set of beautifully crafted compositions on Beautifully Human: Words And Sounds Vol 2. The stand-out track for me is Talk To Me, which starts out sounding neo-soul but quickly morphs into a fabulous jazz number.

I WANNA THANK YA
Angie Stone

Wish I Didn’t Miss You was indeed a career-defining moment for Ms Stone and the song struck a chord with many.
