Dj Luke Leal’s selection

DJ Luke Leal plays music at Sunday School at Arq, Malebox at Stonewall and Queer Nation at Home. Here are his top five dance tracks at the moment.

FOLLOW YOU (Original Vocal Mix)
Sun Decade

This is from my favourite label at the moment Euphonic, the home of Ronski Speed, Mirco de Govia and John Askew. All have high-quality production values in the Paul Van Dyk style -“ these guys sure know their way around a studio. This track has a real solid kick, nice hook, soaring vocals and lots of tweaking effects to make it a floor favourite.

HOLDING ON TO NOTHING (Original Mix)
Agnelli & Nelson feat. Aureus

These guys always know how to create a strong hook and this is no exception. This has very catchy lyrics even though Aureus is not the best vocalist they’ve ever used, and the drops are minimal and short which is always good. A bit of an epic, this is a real grower and will surely become a main room anthem over the next few months.

INTROSPECTION (John Askew Mix)
Terry Bones vs. Fred Baker presents Water Planet.

This punchy yet subtle instrumental is slightly reminiscent of Dreams by Quench. Progressive but energetic, this worked a treat over the Easter weekend. When it kicks back in, it gets a big reaction. I’ve edited this myself to make the drops a little shorter and to-the-point.

I AM (Steve Murano Mix)
Chakra

Pulsing with a slight electro flavour, when dropped this always dirties up the vibe on the floor -“ in a good way! This track was originally released by Chakra (a.k.a. The Space Brothers, Lustral, etc) back in 1997 and features stunning vocals and lyrics beautifully delivered by Kate Cameron. It’s been superbly brought up-to-date and reworked by Steve Murano, who injects his unique dark and dirty funk trance sound into this classic.

EVERYONE (Vocal Mix)
Static Revenger presents The Freshmaka feat. Angelique

My favourite house track right now, this is completely uplifting and irresistible. It’s let’s-all-love-each-other lyrics (I feel you, you feel me, I feel everyone in harmony) are guaranteed to get the floor jumping and put a smile on just about anyone’s face. A real feel-good party track.
