Dragstar

Dragstar

The excitement is like your first trip to the gym. You meet your trainer, you get your program and you have scoped out the steam room but now you have to start the hard work. I am talking about our new column DragStar! Now many will see the name DragStar and think great, it’s about time a newspaper focused on the racing community, but sorry girls it’s not about racing cars -“ unless there is a drag queen or king draped across the bonnet of a Silly Car. (I think they are called Silly Cars).

It is understandable that many community members aren’t that fond of drag queens/kings but we all have to admit that we are a community group that on occasions makes quite a big noise!

DragStar will try and let you know what is happening out and about in the community and will support as much as possible new talent that is sprouting up around everywhere.

As I mentioned earlier, watch out for these girls. It’s de-lightful, it’s de-licious, it’s de-Manning. A night of drag is happening at Sydney University hosted by Sandy Toggs and featuring Freeda Corset, Charisma Belle and some brave friends. It’s on Thursday 20th March at 8pm, at the Manning Bar at the University of Sydney.

I find it so hard to try to support as many charities as possible. One charity which has certainly been very busy this year is 2010 raising $9500. Everyone at 2010 would like to send a personal thank you to all the performers and volunteers who so generously donated their time and the clubs around Sydney that had no problem opening their doors to support 2010.

It wasn’t quite as big as Diana’s one but it defiantly was more glamorous than Sarah’s one. I am talking about the wedding of Mazz and her partner Julian. Unfortunately I was unable to attend but from all reports there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. All our best wishes for the future!

If you have a free Wednesday night, I strongly suggest you pop out to the Imperial Hotel to see Drag Survivor. It is in its last remaining weeks and I can tell you it is one of the campest nights you will ever see. The Survivor girls are put through their paces by host Portia Turbo, partaking in challenges such as jelly wresting and costume making. We are down to our final three girls: Sandy Toggs, Tora Hymen and Gay Abandon. Good luck girls, I know one girl has already got full paying professional work already.
