Dragstar’s Sleaze prognosis

Dragstar’s Sleaze prognosis

After all the hoo-haa that Sleaze caused with the poster and lead-up promotions, like many people I was waiting for a big flop. But to tell you the truth, I couldn’t have been more wrong, it was a huge success. I heard comments like, One of the best Sleaze Balls ever, (from a never-happy old queen) and, It wasn’t too busy but that was why I enjoyed it so much. The shows were amazing! From the start you could feel the energy from the partygoers as they entered the grounds. Everyone was there to have a great time and from all accounts they did.

Unfortunately I was unable to see the 1am show as I had work commitments, but as usual I had a few spies to report for me. The always fabulous Michael Boyd and a troupe of aerialists soon had the entire audience roaring. If that wasn’t enough, the whole show was complemented with a bag of New Year’s Eve-style fireworks. Mardi Gras, you won big points with this show.

Apart from the final show, the rest are very hard to report on because there was no set show as such. Instead, there were just continual happenings with no break in the music, with numerous political statements made and a dash of nudity here and there (for us dirty pervs). Many audience members found themselves not knowing which end of the hall to stand. I have to say this is a great idea, it stops that before-show crush that everyone has felt, and it also brings the party a new life that hasn’t really been explored (in my party life, that is).

To be absolutely honest the last show was a little bit of a blur. I can tell you it starred DIVA Entertainer of the Year Vida Las Vegas and her boys and moved from one side of the hall to the other. With lots of colour and movement and so many lasers it looked like the Star Wars set, the party did close on a huge high.

Fashionwise this year many partygoers opted for sensible attire with a definite emphasis on comfort. There were a few stand-outs. Dellaforce and Yanka greeted everyone looking 100 percent fabulous. With what looked like Vivienne Westwood-esque outfits the girls charged along handing out safe-sex products to anyone and everyone. There were also a few matching groups this year: the Construction Workers and the Silver Sequin showgirls moved around the party spreading craziness to whoever would look. A special mention has to go out to Keren St James -“ you looked hot, girl!

DRAGSTAR BRIEFS

Fabulous party girlfriends Vanity Faire and Destiny Calling concentrated their energies on the recovery parties, causing trouble wherever they went. The girls looked a million dollars in matching swimsuits and leg-warmers, proving you can still look great at 10am.

Who is making Body Bronze their new stomping ground? None other than Portia Turbo. If you are needing a colour top-up or a spray-on tan, why not pop up and see Portia? I have been told the sun beds are extra large, so even my bum will be able to squeeze into one.

Last Thursday we saw the opening for the brand new Arq show starring Vanity Faire, Chelsea Bun, Wyness Mongrel Bitch and new girl about town Dallas Dellaforce. The show is all about strong women, and is a must-see.

Congrats to the young man who won Stonewall’s D&G underwear contest. Arriving with his own hairstylist and makeup artist, how could he go wrong?
