Looking for a workout regime that gets you out of the claustrophobic confines of the gym while still giving you the ability to show off those glistening muscles? Well perhaps dragon boating is the way to go.

Doug Sinclair from the Australian Dragon Boating Federation is looking to establish the first GLBT dragon boating squad.
I need to get about 50 to 60 people showing interest to go ahead, Sinclair said.

It doesn’t really matter what fitness level they are, or if they’ve had any experience, but they have to be serious about being able to commit their time.

Once we’ve got the numbers together I’d like to get them training during our off season, which is from about April 12 to October and then have them come out next season and totally shock people.

Dragon boating is popular around the world and is the subject of some intense but fun domestic and international competitions.

Sinclair said getting a Sydney gay and lesbian team together would be a great opportunity to not only stay in shape, but continue to prove our sporting prowess.

I want people to just say -˜wow, where did these guys come from’?, he said.

Dragon boating is such a great sport for people who are healthy or for people who are looking to improve their health.

It’s also great for people who like to party a bit and get dressed up, dragon boaters do a bit of that stuff.
